Renovations completed in 2005 have been built upon the nearly 200-year-old architectural highlights that give Ugenta its character.

This beautiful riverside community has been a mystical and cool summer retreat for hundreds of years. There are but two rooms at this intimate lush mountain hideaway ĄX one Japanese room (6 people) and one western room (4 people). They both have been built with their own unique strengths and Ugenta’s established reputation.

The forest and shrines are alive with the stories of the past as they wait to be whispered in the ears of those curious enough to explore the hillsides of the huge majestic cedars in search of the fables and legends. Another legend in the making is the unique dining experience, Kawadoko (late spring & summer only), where you feast on raised platforms hovering just above the quick flowing waters of the Kibune River.

Ugenta is committed to their core values by providing experiences that are authenticaly local. Ugenta has achieved an unrivalled presence with their service and cuisine that are truly engaging. One glance in any direction from Ugenta Inn can settle even the most restless of souls or draw excitement from even the most staid and seasoned traveler.

Simplicity is evident in the room, which stresses the importance of visual focus to bring one to a calm and relaxed state, just as one cannot listen to different pieces of music at the same time. A real comprehension of the beautiful is possible only through concentration of a central motive- rejuvenation! 55 tatami mats of pure Japanese tradition captured by a modern face has kept with the owners philosophy, that the guests will find every possible comfort here, nothing but luxurious right down to the heavenly bedding. The room is centered round a table that may be used for unique in room dining experiences Hachi fuku (charcoal cooked), relaxation and practicalities. The floor is cut away for your feet to descend down, where they’ll be met with the warmth of heated flooring. While sparse the ‘George Nagashima’ furniture is comfortable and stylish while using the in-room computer, or sitting window side to enjoy the sites & sounds of nature. The wooden bathtubs supply the best of two worlds, one in-doors and one outdoors. Submerge, sit back and forget and allow Ugenta to wash away the past.
